Graton Road – In the Heart of Green Valley
Big Pig Vineyard
The Russian River Valley has played a vital role in California’s history of growing and producing Pinot Noir. Home to some of today’s most iconic Pinot growers and producers, the Green Valley in the heart of the Russian River Valley is cool, damp and covered with redwood trees. Cool, foggy spring days lead into summer days that can get warm, but only late in the afternoon and cool down quickly as the sun drops over the Pacific Ocean.
The Big Pig Vineyard is the first vineyard on Graton Road if you are headed west from Downtown Graton. Situated in the gold ridge soils that have made this area famous, this small vineyard has some heirloom clones that can be hard to find. Everything is cane pruned and the vineyard is farmed immaculately. We took equal parts Calera, Swan, Pommard 4 and DRC La Tache cuts and ferment them separately to discover the nuances of the site. From here we can select the best barrels from the best clones to put this wine together.
